What are all these things?
Part 1

Before you start to open the case, READ "First things first before you open the case". Remove all external wires and cables. After you have the Puter open, plug the power cable back in. This will insure proper grounding of the case. This and the wrist ground strap are critical to stop static electricity. Many parts inside can be ruined with static electricity so make sure you, the Puter and all parts are grounded at all times. Don't worry! You won't get shocked unless you stick a screwdriver inside the power supply.

On the back of the case you will find 3 to 6 hex head screws. These will be through the cover part of the case an into the bare metal of the case frame.

The curved red arrows show typical locations. After you have the screws out simply lift on the back of the cover as indicated then remove it. When you put it back you will align the top front of the cover then set it down into place.

Now let's take a look at the inside. Your Puter will look a little different because the cables and drives were removed from this one for a better view.

Below we have laid out the parts for a better view and identification. Remember that some things may look a little different in your Puter.

A. Case cover
B. Puter case
C. Power supply and cooling fan
D. Front Puter cover (normally you will not have to remove this)
E. CD Rom drive
F. Floppy drive
G. Hard drive
H. Additional drive bay (for adding more drives. Not found in all Puters)
I. Typical ribbon cable (used to connect drives to the motherboard)
